DAMAGED KICK SHAFT FOR THE C/CA/CB/CL72/77 ENGINES
This is what happens when the kick shaft in a C/CA/CL72/77 engine isn't indexed at 11:00 o'clock. If it's at 12:00 or later the internal stop bolt will hit the big end and cause the splines to twist and eventually the spline end will shear off. Pic one is where the stop bolt hits and pic 2 is how the splines look as they first twist. ................lm

LM, can you please explain how to "index" it at 11 o'clock? Do you just have the kick start lever pointing at 11 o'clock when sliding the crankcase onto the threads?

kick shaft position
Guess I got a small job tomorrow. My shaft is at 12 o'clock. "Indexed" I suppose means in the returned, relaxed state. My manual shows the kick arm at 11. Never really gave it much thought.
Thanks Ed.
Thanks Ed.
