CB72/77 Rear Shock - Spring Rates ?

I bought a universal compressor at a MC parts shop years back then a OEM HONDA one later. I'd think you can ask for a shock spring compressor at most any shop. .........lm

Trying not to appear stupid - would a normal coil spring compressor do the trick? Like this:

Or is there a specific tool for compressing shocks, cos my google mojo appears to be broken if there is.

Those are for car springs, when you're replacing MacPherson struts.

Anyone got a source for a shock spring compressor? I'm gonna need one eventually, too. I haven't seen anything at my local Honda shop.

Just did a quickie search -- would one of these work on old Honda shocks?

I'm thinking the 2nd style would be better, as you can't always get to the spring on the old shocks.

I hook a moto tie down to the ceiling, and through the top of the shock. Pull down and remove collars. It's a lot easier with 2 people, but can be done solo if your wife refuses to participate in your foolishness!

It looks like the "hook" in that second tool goes through the top shock mounting hole and the shock collar goes below the tool and you then wind the tool so it pulls the shock up and the collar is forced onto the bottom of the tool and so frees up the collets. I reckon I can probably improvise something to do that using a vice, pity I can't find the tool for sale in the UK though.

You can never have enough tools!
