Connecting rods

Post by Jefft » Wed Nov 21, 2018 7:07 pm

I’m in the process restoring a couple of CB77 and need a couple of decent connecting rods to work with. I’m prepared to modify them to use oversize pins but I want to start with the best pieces I can find.( no rust and salvageable.) let me know what you have. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jefft

They come up on eBay occasionally. I am rebuilding many CB/CL/CA77 and found two sets in a box of rusty parts recently in a barn full of parts in UK.

I don't know if I'll have any spares for the forseeable future but, if you are patient, you'll find something.

These rods were re-claimed in my workshop by bushing the small-ends.

I wonder if it’s possible to convert the con rod ends to use needle bearings? Is there enough material?

How thick will your small end bush be? The small ends are not very big so there is not a lot of material to work with. Let me know what your plan is and I may bush mine.

I'm just being curious, Jeff. I don't have the facilities to machine for bushings or bearings.

Seadog

Not really enough room and not often done in four strokes because of the high loads.

Bushes are 0.5 mm wall thickness when finished. I make a thick bush, press it in then finish bore in situ.
