Sprocket change, should I install the new oil seal (number 27) dry or lube it?

Usually, just a bit of light lube (3 in 1 type oil). However, in the last year I've had the seals work their way out on my 1962 and 1966 CB77's. These were new seals (not old stock that had been gathering dust) I used. In both instances, this happened close to home, and having been alerted by the aroma of oil on a hot exhaust pipe, no damage was done from oil loss. Never had this happen in the '60's, when I rode three CB77's over 50,000 miles total. Perhaps the new material is a bit more slippery, or the OD crush dimension has very slightly changed. Anyhow, I would advise obtaining a Cappellini 117A Oil Seal with Holder kit. Comes complete with seal and hardware, no machining required. Good for a bit of extra piece of mind. Regards, Chase

I won't change the small seal, the old seal seams to be OK so (at this moment) no need for the Cappellini solution.

The big seal I have is NOS.

Got it. Be sure to break (chamfer) the corner where the seal OD is bored into the cases. Will help prevent the seal from being scraped or torn. Regards, Chase

First ride with the correct (factory standard) sprocket setup.

Very smooth ride, I like it.

2 small issues after installation;
The 500km old 3.50 trials rear tire had very little clearance with the swingarm after installing the new front sprocket. 37-15 sprocket setup with 98 links chain. Lost some rubber and paint on the swingarm, clearance seems OK now. This might become an issue when I want to install a new similar type tire in the future.

I can hear a very light whining noise at speeds above 25 mph and on deceleration.
I assume this might be the new sprocket getting to know the chain.

Slightly adjusted tension and alignment afterwards. Will go for another ride tomorrow.

You may have something out of alighnment............spacer?........wrong side of sprocket to outside?........
