65 CL77 frame and engine numbers

Hi all... I have been handed a project from a friend to get a 65 Cl 77 back in running condition . It is pretty good overall and is complete other than a few minor bits and needing cosmetics.
The engine and frame numbers don't match and I was wondering if they actually were suppose to match from the factory or not? I have done a search for a data base but haven't found anything. Probably me....

Word is they should be within 300 of each other to be a match.

There is no actual proof that the ststement is correct.
I've sen them as much as 410 apart. ..............lm

OK thanks... I will determine the difference. Just wanted to see if Honda was diligent about matching numbers back then.

They didn't match numbers in the early 60's. ....................lm
