first dream

Post by rustywrench » Tue Oct 17, 2017 11:38 pm

Since I stayed loyal to the scrambler for such a long time, I have been looking at a 68 dream with a munched piston. Bike comes with a spare engine for parts. The numbers are ca77 103xxxx and ca78e103xxxx. I am thinking these numbers are 67 even though the title says 68. Am I on the right track with the numbers? I should be able to pull the trigger by December. Looking forward to life on the forum again. Rusty

Rusty

Great to have you back with another project! I think production stopped in '67 so it cannot be later than that. What does the harness tag say?

I will not know that until I actually make the trip to bring it home. Seller is working on a title error in that the title lists the engine number as the vin. I will not accept it until it is right. I'm a bit picky that way. In the mean time I am still looking for that cl77/72 barn find. once in a great while I get luck. Rusty

I had thought that "back then" they titled bikes as the year they were sold. SO it's possible to have a bike built in 1967 but wasn't sold until 1968 AND then they are titled as 1968 bike. I'm also not sure when they stopped doing that, but I know this was the case in mid 60s.
