Looks like that dog has some grinding marks like someone tried to touch it up at some point.

Is the shaft ok in the area that the rollers run on?

Gearbox damage

Hello Greg

From the picture it looks like it has possibly been welded up then ground back to shape ? Hardly worth putting it back in if you are going to put some miles on it. Unless you are in a rush to get it rebuilt. I don't have the experience with these gearboxes that some of the other forum members have but I do know damaged gears etc don't get better with use. As Alan W has said check the kickstart shaft where the countershaft rollers run on it as even slight wear can be the start of problems.

All

I tend to agree that someone has tidied up the gear dogs with an angle grinder but do not think welded though I will have another look with that in mind.

I did not notice much wear associated with the rollers/kick start shaft but will have another look. The obvious wear is on the bushing at the other end adjacent to the kick start pawl.

Greg

I think it would be good to get replacements for those parts tp give you a good start with your rebuilt engine. I am away for a couple of weeks but will happily look through my spares when I get back if you haven't found anything by then.

Hello Greg

If you cant get, the parts you are looking for from G-man or closer to home, I think I should have them ( though no spare kickstart shafts unfortunately ).
