Can anyone tell me how to get these things off without destroying them?

Just gently pull them off. They are held on to the tank by a rubber lip that slips over the rim on the tank. It will become obvious once you gt one off.

However, getting them back on is a challenge.

Does anyone have any "tricks" for getting them back on?
