I've owned way too many bikes from the 50's to 80's and I don't think I've ever had a bike that the throttle would return on it's own. They've all required at least a little twist to get it to come back, but all of them were buttery smooth.
I replied in your other thread roadrunner, but I would start with your timing adjustment and valve clearances before tickling with the carburetor. Always the last line of defense.
1965 CA77 DREAM 305 should they only have 1 carburetor

There is a throttle return adjustment on the underside of the starter button mount. It's a set screw with a lock nut. Mine is completely gone and I get a decent recoil on the throttle.

i see where the screw was & i don't have the starter button either.you don't happen to know how to time the bike without a timing lite,i cleaned the plugs & set the points but i don'y have a timing lite.did you go pointless?
