Randy, What a great idea of yours, Makes me want to do another seat, my excuse is that I had no nails, but did have the bar-stock & the lathe was sitting there doing nothing anyway!!
To everyone else, thanks for the kind comments.
95% painting done, wheels done, harness done, all assembled & awaiting engine.
Just got a message from Hondrestorations that the pistons/liners, & other stuff is due for dispatch.
The head with re-cut seats collected yesterday & I have it all re-assembled & ready to fit.
Bought a (sort-of) replica front mudguard (fender) but although it WILL work, I don't like it so the
next job is to make my own & that little rear rubber extension piece.
REALLY enjoying this one!

Yes, it is enjoyable this old bike restoration game.
I particularly love the mending of the un-mend able and adding those little personal touch to restorations.
These bikes are, after all, just mobile antiques and toys for 'old boys'..
Looking forward to seeing your reproduction fender.

I usually take hundreds of pics during my refurbs for my own records, & have a few albums , as I am with this one, HOWEVER, as usual the camera was in my pocket when I started, but I sort of 'got carried away' cutting, shaping glueing etc, next thing I knew it was done!! DOH.Seadog wrote:You've done a fine job. Did you take any photos during the process of cutting and fitting the foam layers?
But basically the rusty base was blasted, welded where necessary, 2-pack acrylic (black) painted.
3 x 18" square sheets of very hard upholstery-foam was purchased from e-bay (only used 2 )
2 layers were spray-glued to the base, excess was hacked off with the electric carving knife, then a strip of 1/2" ordinary foam was glued all around (vertical ) then topped off with ordinary foam again but this time on top.
I ended up with a big 'block' of seat!!
This was then carved to some sort of seat shape which I had to guess at by fitting the cover until it looked something like, trouble is, I keep looking at it just KNOW I can do better, I still may buy another cover & have another crack at it.

I understand; it happens to me all of the time. Thanks for the description though. At some point, I'll have the same chore, but I think my seat frame is bent. I'll need to strip it down to be sure and if it is, try to bend it back.modelman wrote:

Can you say where you bought your cover? I noticed that it had a gold logo and I haven't seen that from eBay vendors.
