Speedo & front fender

Post by modelman » Sun Aug 16, 2015 2:19 am

1: The 2 screws either side of the speedo case tighten into the oval rubber/metal ring & NOT the clocks themselves, so as soon as the new cables were fitted the whole case 'lifts' at the back, pushing it down only results in it lifting again, there doesn't appear to be anything missing, so how should it be??

2: I'm making a front fender but my bike came with a cut-down version, about 15" long, so I have the cross-section to copy, but no idea as to the length.

Can someone give me the overall length along the top-centre line, the easiest way is to use thin string or cord held in place with the fingers at each end.
Using a tape-measure won't be accurate enough as it won't lay flat along the curve.

Looking at photos, i'm guesstimating around 36" or so.

Did it with a soft seamstress' tape.
37 1/8".
18 3/16" from back to centre of the rivet holding the main fork mount.

Modelman

Are you modifying and existing fender or making one from scratch?

Please post pics as you progress?

Hi G-Man,

Yes I'm attempting making one from scratch, taking pics as I go.

Hi modelman,
Regarding your speedo, I had the same problem so I glued the rubber oval with a thin smear of silicone adhesive (ideally black) to the speedo case, I did have to press the unit hard into the headlamp bucket to get the screw holes lined up but it's nice and firm now.
