Is it an issue to ride without it??
I seem to remember reading something but I can't find it.
Anyway, I'd like to remove the lever and keep it in the tool box
For emergencies, I just don't enjoy riding the bike as much with it
Where it is. So from a mechanical standpoint , is it safe to remove?

The spring load on the kick-start lever sets the dog inside the transmission to the rest position so it doesn't ratchet while running. You have to leave the spring loaded part splined to the shaft intact.

Thanks, I was wanting to remove just the lever as its position was uncomfortable.
After a few hundred miles I've gotten used to it.

If it is anything like my 1967 C77, you DON'T want to remove the kick start lever. There is a spring and a ball in the shaft that holds the lever in the folded position and there is also a fairly heavy spring around the pivot pin. It is a PITA to get that all back together again! (Ask me how I know LOL!)
