Having bought a Keyster carb rebuild kit (KH-1316) some time ago, I finally got around to tearing down my CA77's carburetor for cleaning and rebuilding a couple of days ago. As expected, the thing was a mess - sort of like an archeological dig once I got it opened up. I soaked it in PineSol overnight and it cleaned up well. I did run into a couple of problems though and thought I'd ask for some advice.
Small stuff first: when I removed the idle speed and idle mixture screws, I found NO springs and no o-ring. Is this normal? Should I reinstall them that way?
The big problem I found was with the choke mechanism. For want of the proper term, the "gate" or "door" that drops down when the choke is closed works fine, but the spring loaded "hatch" that opens as the larger door drops appears to be partially disconnected and flops around. I have tried to remove the entire assembly by removing the choke lever and lifting it out, but it is trapped inside. The small arm that lifts and lowers the mechanism holds it all in place. How can this be removed? If I can remove it, but find the part to be beyond repair, is a replacement available - I can't find one - or will the carb need to be replaced? I certainly hope not.
Hope one of you can pass along some wisdom.

Thanks very much for answering, bamaci. I will, indeed, re-install with springs and the o-ring. Luckily they're supplied in the Keyster kit. I think I'm going to reuse the original idle speed and mixture screws though.bamacl wrote:Springs and o ring are needed. Remove the choke arm by taking off the nut then you will be able to remove the choke slide. The small flap is spring loaded so most likely the spring is bad. I have seen many work fine like that but you will not have full affect of the choke when closed.
As for the slide (thanks for the proper term), I have taken off the choke lever by removing the nut but the slide will not come out, although it moves freely inside the carb. I think that the arm that connects the slide to the lever is holding it back. Do you know how to get that arm off?

Thanks for your reply. As you can see in the photo, I've got a paper clip hooked onto the slide and I can move it easily. Unfortunately, I cannot lift it out. I'll keep trying. Perhaps the broken spring loaded door is catching somewhere.OldScrambler wrote:No....................Just play with the choke-slide position to lift it out.
I was finally able to remove the slide. I was able to position the arm so that its pin lifted out of the grove in the slide, then I let the slide fall. Then i was able to remove the arm, then the slide.
With the slide removed, the hinge pin for the little spring loaded door promptly fell out. The spring is in very bad condition. I'll try to fix it and get it back in. Anyone have a spare slide?
