Having bought my bike new in 1965 in New Zealand I can confirm it came with flat bars, but it is currently fitted with high bars off a CB160 I think. Crashed it in 1966 and broke my left arm so it was in plaster above the elbow so I needed higher bars to ride the bike. Learnt how to do clutchless gear changes. The serations don,t match up with the origionals but easier to ride.

Yes, I often wondered about that, when I first read ZAMM I had no real experience of long distance rides - I lived in the UK then. After moving to the US and becoming a daily biker (who in their right mind wants to sit in traffic jams all day?) a windscreen is essential. That ride must have been hard work at times.
Must read ZAMM again...
