Another 1961 CB72

Post by G-Man » Sun Mar 30, 2014 2:05 pm

I thought that you might like to see my latest challenge. A matching numbers 1961 CB72....

It comes with original documentation and was registered on 1st January 1962.

Has later brake plates and needs a few parts to get it back to standard..... :-)

Wow, Graham! That one looks like a real challenge. You know, it just breaks my heart to see these wonderful old bikes neglected like that. But, I know it's in really good hands with you. I can't wait to see what you do with it.

Sara

I just "had to have" this one. The last owner had a collection of rusting Hondas all with original documentation. I have checked the numbers on frame and engine and they really do match. I have already had help from Bill Silver and Alan Curtis for parts and information.

I am just amazed that the engine turns over and pleased that the color under the black is blue.

There might even be a restoration thread for this one...... :-)

The 250cc class was a 'learner' bike in the 1960s and this one changed hands 3 times in the first 6 months. I assume it was in the hands of one of those 16 year olds that it lost its original forks fenders and wheels....

It's all therapy. Bringing these old bikes back to life again is what keeps me going. I am a connoisseur of rust.... :-)

Graham, now that is a project! My '61 was in similar condition, bought it at an auction. No one wanted the challenge. I didn't finish it but I did achieve my goal to hear it run before sending it to a new home. Same auction I bought this rolling CL77 chassis and have decided send it off too. After throwing parts at it I received an offer above my asking price. I've been getting crap from my friends about making this one run too, it has zero compression and I'm not going any further! Yes it is therapy!
