Muffler Help - SOMEONE has to have a suggestion.

OK, my 66 305 is in need of some mufflers. Since it's not a show bike, I can't seem to justify dropping $1000-1200 on mufflers when I only paid $2700 for the bike. I could live with the fishtails, (like the post listed below) but so far, no one has posted a workup. Surely SOMEBODY has done something other than the APEX style mufflers. I just don't like the look of those. Anybody tried a BSA, or Enfield exhaust? Anyone? C'mon people, there's GOT to be a good looking, more affordable alternative!

Sorry, but I couldn't locate a photo. My understanding is that they're like OEM with the exception the baffle is built into the muffler and not removable.

Some interesting re-makes there, Graham.

BITD it was "the done thing" to fit the reverse-cone megaphones -- the type that had a cast aluminium removable cone -- and they really made a noticeable difference to the general performance of some bikes. In 1970 my mate bought himself a '68 ('67-model) CD175A "sloper" which, in standard form, would "walk all over" a Bantam 175 D14/4. He fitted a pair of said reverse-cone mufflers and with that modification alone he could pretty much keep up with one of "our gang's" BSA Starfire 250! No carb mods, nada mas; just better exhalations. And it sounded gorgeous to us sixteen-year-olds!! :-D

Needless to say, the reverse-cone magaphone became the order of the day, getting fitted to a Tiger 90 and a Daytona 500. The latter, it was deemed, performed and sounded better (well, louder.....) with Dunstalls.

Kids, eh? :-/

How 'right' you are. My Daytona T100T sported reverse-cones as did my brother's 1968 CB250. You could hear him from 2 miles away!

This is an old pic of one of my project C72s. It is unusual in that it had the crazy 'bug-eye' winkers but look at those meggas. It looks a heap but must've sounded fantastic.
