New user with a 1961 CB72 From Holland

Hey everyone!

Been reading on this forum for a while, and made an account today.
Since a few months back i'm a proud owner of a 1961 Honda CB72. was standing still for a long time, but always inside (warm and dry), and the previous owners always kicked the motor now and then, so it wasn't stuck.

The only problem was that the left carb slide was stuck due to old gas.
Soaked it in WD40 for a few days and ticked on it softly till it came loose!
Cleaned the Carbs in an ultrasonic (Spelled that right?) bath and put them back on.

I changed the oil and the spark plugs, and put a temporary battery in.

Kicked a few times with the key on off position to get some oil through the engine. Put the key on 1st position and started after kicking 2 times!

Still have to adjust the engine and carbs etc, and asked if "Jensey" wanted to help me with that, and to see if there is more work that needs to be done.
That will happen in a few months.

Cant wait to make some nice weather cruises with the bike!

Here are some Pictures: (Carbs are off on the pictures because they were of for the Ultrasonic clean)

Also Got a Honda SS50, restored it.

SS50

Post by lifewithoutparole » Fri Nov 22, 2013 6:13 pm

schwantz34, welcome. I have a 67 Honda S90 and have seen S65's here in the states but never an SS50 like yours. It is cool!! And your 305 bike is a great bike as well. I imagine the weather where you live is going to get pretty cold soon? Anyway, great bikes, this is a great forum with lots of help and friendly members, many whom live in Europe!

dont think you are going to spot a SS50 in the states.
they were only made for: France, Belgium, Germany, England and Holland.

Yes, it is getting pretty cold down here. have to wait till April for nicer weather.
We've already had some wet snow here. Good thing that the CB72 is parked warm and dry inside.
The SS50 only Dry outside, but is protected very good. Sprayed silicon spray over all the parts.

Cleaned the Fuel petcock today, and took a shot at leveling the carb slides, cleaned the ignition points.
Also cleaned the wheels a little bit.
now its up for a specialist to take a look if the bike is still oke. Hope everything in the engine is still good and not something damaged.
Bike starts and idles, only the left side seems to pop while idling, maybe the ignition timing needs to be adjusted?
