Yeah I'll probably just stick with what I have -- think I've done enough 'changes' to my bike for now!

Interesting if you look at other items that Cappellini offers for the CB77 -- oil coolers, oil pumps etc, so lots of things to potentially spend money on!

As far as the K&N air filters go, I still think they're perfectly fine to use without any ill effects. If I were riding the bike every day, for hundreds of miles in dusty conditions, then maybe (even at that, I'd wonder). But for the way many of us ride these bikes (for me, a once a week 100-200 mile ride), I personally can't see it.

My comment is about oil filter not air filter. I do agree that K-N air filters are not the best in filtration.

I have never had a problem with K-N or that design racing or on my vehicles.
Both my MUSTANGS and 2002 FORD F250 diesel and 2011 FORD F350 diesel run them and I wash with soap, dry then spray once in a while.
Works for me. ..............lm

basically it's this---- you want an engine to breathe better?-K&N, you want to keep dirt out of the engine? Paper. you want an engine to breathe even better?--nothing. you get the idea. I don't think anyone would dispute these statements. I run K&N air filters on my diesels because they get frequent service. I would never run one on on a vintage motorcycle.

Seems that this thread has morphed into a K&N air filter debate....

So then the question is, if engine wear is increased due to the usage of a K&N filter in a vintage bike such as the CB77, over how many miles are we potentially talking about? 200 miles? 1000 miles? 5000 miles? 10,000 miles? 20,000 miles? If it's say 10,000 miles (and if it in fact occurs vs the level of wear with an OEM filter), for some people here that could be 20 years. My bike has just a bit over 27,000 miles on it, and it took 47 years to get to that point. I'd think that with regular oil changes and regular checks/service of the K&N filters (including proper oiling), there wouldn't be any measurable issues. But that's just my perspective, and I certainly don't admit to being a mechanic.

Back to the Cappellini question -- has anyone installed any of their products on their bikes? Any thoughts?

Vince,

My apologies for taking you post off track. That was not my intention.

No sweat, we're good. I'm just trying to figure it all out myself!

Guess it all does lead to a larger question about 'improvements' and whether they are worth doing. I actually forwarded the oil filter eBay auction to my mechanic John, and his emailed reply was 'GRAB IT!'. But then do you need to get the Cappellini oil pump etc etc etc, then $700 later......
