Hello to all.
My old Beemer is gone, there is cash in the bank, and I need some help and/or advice.

I am old enough to remember Superhawks and Scramblers running around when I was a kid.
I always liked them, but never owned one. I still don't, which is why I'm here.
I hadn't seen a Superhawk for sale here (Toronto area) for a year until last week, and it was junk. They are few and far between here.
I do however see the odd CL scrambler for sale.

So now the questions. (I know - "Not another newbie!")
Are the basics of the Superhawk and Scrambler the same? I am having trouble determining that.
Specifically -
Is the engine, as delivered by Honda, tuned the same? Camshafts? Carburettors? Etc.
Is the gearing only different through external sprockets while keeping the internal transmission gears the same?
How about the front forks?
I know the wheels are 19" versus 18" on the CB. Bars, tank, and a few other bits are different.

Basically I am wondering if a good road bike can be made from a CL.
In the end it probably wouldn't look like either a CB or CL.
Functional is what I'm after. Pretty is "nice to have" but not necessary at first.

I know this kind of query can be tedious, but I would very much appreciate any and all of you knowlegeable replies.

Welcome to the forum. One of the guys here will give you chapter and verse but here are some simple differences.

Different frame. CL has front downtube which means no electric starter.

CL will be lower geared but could be fixed with sprocket change.

Tune is similar but the CL engine has no revcounter drive.

CB has "back to front" kickstart. CL is "normal".

Good luck!

Welcome to the forum! IMHO, the CB is a much better street bike than the CL. Smoother, better handling bike. They are quite small however. I'm 6'0 and fit on a CB OK. CL is taller and more spacious. Try sitting on and riding each if you get a chance.

I am 5'9" on a tall day so a CB should fit nicely. Just can't seem to find one.
