Speedo Cable Hub Question

What keeps the speedometer cable hub from spinning when the cable is not in place ?
I am afraid my new cable will be damaged as soon as I install it and run down the road.

i just replaced a cable the other day but didnt take the wheel off. ill look and take a pic if i get a chance.

The speedo drive is tightened up by the wheel spindle and becomes part of it.

It's clamped by the axle. Install the cable with the axle nut and pinch bolts loose so the speedo drive is free to spin. Let the cable set the angle of the speedo drive then lock it down by tightening the axle nut.

G-man and 48 are right on. If you tighten the pinch bolts first, the axle won't tighten down enough to keep the speedo drive from turning. Tighten the axle first, then the pinch bolt and your problem should go away. If it doesn't let us know.
