Am I Missing Something Here (swing arm/foot peg brackets)?

Post by thekernal » Sat Nov 03, 2012 4:19 pm

Got the swing arm on the frame but it looks like I screwed something up as there seems to be some big gaps with the foot peg brackets- see the pictures in the links below (gaps circled in yellow). Does this look right and I can just bolt these down as is, or did I not assemble this correctly? http://imgur.com/a/LpcUk

Make sure your bushings are seated in your swingarm and that your dust seal caps are seated on them as well. Did you tighten your swing arm bolt and nut to squeeze everything together or just put it on finger tight?

Yep, all looks in the right order. As HT states, check that the axle is wound up good & tight. The axle inserts from the right side (ie, the Aerotite-type nut should be on the left side of the bike).

What are those silver sort of caps behind the aluminum peg mount?
HONDA part is a black thing with a rubber seal inside and rounded outer edge. ..........lm

Yes, got it. 52144-268-000, CAP. Not near my bike right now, but I see it in the parts list and on the fiche, one on each end of the swingarm. Should they not be there then, Ed?

Interesting that the parts fiche shows the swingarm axle inserted from left to right.......

As the end spacing is wrong and I don't see the correct parts at the ends I wonder what the thickness of that silver part is and did he install the flat washers at the end/outside of the shaft or inside the silver cap.
I noticed that error many years back.
Most anyone who has worked on the CB72/77 a lot knows it inserts from the right to be correct. ..........lm

Kernel, The silver washers appear that they may be for an early CL, and therefore too wide for the CB swingarm. I work in SF, and have a shop in San Rafael. Pm or e-mail me, perhaps I can swing by and have a look.
