Substitute for OEM coil

Is anybody using a different coil or is there a substitute for the OEM coil for a 64' dream?

I use the coils of a CB350twin on my CB77

Most any dual lead 12v coil will work but you may have to work out a way to mount it.

The coil from a CB350 twin will work on the CB77 but not on the CA77. A coil from a 4 cylinder bike would probably work. Most 4 cyl bikes used two dual lead coils.

Hahnda, thanks for the visual aid! It appears the first one will mount right up. Since my last post a friend mentioned using a coil off of a cb750. I'm sure you're talking the same language as he is. I suppose I'll have to shop ebay for a deal.

Tinman, I've been looking for a replacement coil for my '64 Dream for over a year, so I bought the one Handa mentions first when I saw it on Ebay last week.

I got another one earlier that bolted in and worked, but didn't fit under side-cover. Not so good.

If you have access to some 4-banger coils, the info I've learned (mostly on these boards) seems to suggest they'll probably work - but you'll have to be your own research department. Good luck!

RD, this is what I bought. Much like the what you have, it fits right into the existing mount. No mods or having to fabricate a mount, just screwed right on in. Works great!
