I'm beginning to feel like I might have bitten off more than I can chew.
I bought a '63 CA77 knowing nothing about mechanics or motorcycles. I read what I could, bought my Bill Silver guides, spent a LOT of time prowling these boards. I got it running but blew a head gasket. Had the cylinders honed and the valves lapped. Pulled the entire engine, went through it completely. Cleaned out all the gunk - and there was a LOT of gunk. Bought and installed an entire new top end gasket set from Western Hills Honda.
I followed Silver's guide to the letter and felt confident that I'd installed the valves correctly- the timing chain was straight and true, the punch mark was at 12:00. I set the valve adjustment to .005 and torqued the valve head cover down in a cross pattern to 15 ft lbs.
SO: I finally get the engine started after fussing around with some electrical snafus and it purrs! Of course, the throttle is sticking and the clutch is almost completely worthless- if I pull it in it still doesn't disengage, but I'll get to that later.
But it's running and it sounds great, even with one muffler disconnected. I'm thrilled for about 3 seconds until oil starts SPEWING out of the exhaust ports.
I found another thread that sounds like a similar experience, but it seems to have dropped off and was never answered.
Can ANYONE point me in the right direction? As always, I appreciate anyone taking the time to help. I'm enjoying the learning process but sometimes my inexperience frustrates me and I'm going on 2 years now without a single ride!
