Replacing Clutch Cable

I went to home depot and bought one.

Turned out to be quite handy when I had to pull the front axle.

Plus, it's a good 'garage defense' weapon...

"adjuster" in LM's post = big ass screw

So I called Charlie's Place, because I thought I had the wrong size cable, (the inner cable is the same size as the old one, but the outer casing is about 1/4" longer), they told me I needed to adjust the clutch at that flat-blade screw on the outside of the panel to loosen the clutch out. Loosen it to the left until the tension is gone, then turn it back to the right until you reach the point of tension, then back it to the left 1/8th of an inch. Does that sound right? The new cable had the clutch pulled almost all the way out, and that was with both cable adjusters all the way in.

They are correct. Screw both the lever adjuster and cable adjuster at the case inward to give the cable the maximum amount of slack. Then loosen the 10mm bolt right next to the big screwhead. Next, turn that big screwhead (properly termed the "adjuster") counterclockwise (half a turn will usually do) and then clockwise until you feel tension. Then back it out 1/8 of an inch and tighten that 10mm bolt. Now your clutch is adjusted properly. Use the lever and case adjustments to take up most, but not all of the remaining cable slack and you are done.

I feel dumb, I coulda had this done yesterday. Oh well, it's always nice to learn :) thanks guys for your help.

"Almost all the way out" doesn't sound kosher. The cable and the arm it's attached to should be at a little less than 90-degrees so that when its actuated, you are working at about 90-degrees for maximum mechanical advantage. This has nothing to do with the adjuster in the case. Post a pic...
