My clutch cable is about to snap at the hand lever. I notice on this bike the cable goes into the engine on the right side, so I'm going to have to do a little more work to replace the cable. Do you just pop off the right-side engine cover and that's it? Now I actually need to see a manual. Anyone know where there's a pdf online? Anyone have any general tips for a first-timer?
Thanks.
Replacing Clutch Cable
The PDF should be in the yellow tab section.
Remove the right peg bolt and wrap the brake arm assembly and peg out of the way.
Remove the right side stator cover screws and round cover, remove the side right cover bolts, keeping them marked so you know what goes where - they are all different lengths.
Make sure the adusters on both the lever and the lower case are turned all the way in before proceeding.
Carefully remove the cover and rotate it over so you can see where the clutch cable goes into the gears.
You should have enough slack to slip the old one out, and the new one in.
Before reinstall follow the kickstarter gear reinstall setup -- you will find it on the forum. It's in the thread "Superhawk from Hell." It involves alinging the gears and making sure the shaft is properly rotated.
It's a good idea to check for cracks and fully lube the kicker assembly before proceeding.
When you reinstall the cover, don't crank the bolts too hard, as they are prone to strip.
Then follow the procedure for clutch adjustment - which is also on the forum. You will need a big ass screwdriver.
Reinstall the right peg and go ride.
Others may have thoughts, or identify things I missed.
I am no expert.

Re: Replacing Clutch Cable
What bike do you have? Many CA77's and CA78's have right side covers that allow for you to replace the cable without removing the case cover. You gotta work through the inspection hole that has the black rubber plug in it.

Thanks for the advice. I mean, it's a damn cable I'm sure it's not that tough, but it's just all the crap that needs to come off to get to it that I'm wondering about.
It's a CB77, 64' I think. There's a metal plate where the cable goes into the case, not very big though, looks like it comes off. Is that an 'inspection hole?'

No way to change it without taking the right side cover off. When you pull the cover off, the kicker will want to snap back (CCW) so hold a little forward pressure on it. Put it back on holding the kicker at the same angle. Be sure to get the right length cable and route it properly. There were a few different lengths depending on the bars.
