Good Rear-View Mirrors for the Flat Bars

I've got a superhawk with the early-style flat handlebars. I've gone one left-side rear view mirror but it's a circular, flat mirror, not a concave, rectangular wide-angle mirror such as the ones found on the later cb77s with the non-flat, riser bars.

Riding around SF I feel really unsafe not knowing what's always behind and to the side of me, and I have to ride a lot slower and more conservatively as a result-- which is probably not a bad thing, but it's better to know either way.

Do the latter-style rectangular mirrors work well with the flat bars? Can you see behind you, or do you just end up seeing reflections of your arms like with a lot of other flat bars? Also, are the repro versions you find on ebay from Asia inferior to the originals?

Any other mirrors you can recommend?

I tried pulling the mirrors off my S90, but they didn't stick out far enough or in the right way to be effective.

This also means I'm looking to buy a pair, so lemme know if you're selling.

The rectangal mirrors are still available from Honda and are not pricey. The biggest issue I have is I find that my elbows block them somewhat. I'm always tucking my elbows back to get a full view. I'm not sure that changing from round to the rectangle would be any advantage.

I'm not figuring changing the shape of the mirror will be what does it. I just know that the circular mirror I have is flatter, and less concave and wide-angle than the rectangle ones. The wide-angle is what increases your field of view. I do feel quite blind out there without decent mirrors.

Bar end mirriors are worth looking at, especially as you're not worried about origionality.

Ya, bar end mirrors perhaps, so long as they don't make the bike too wide to split lanes in traffic.

I might stop by Charlie's and see if I can convince them to let me pull the late-style rectangle mirrors off some other bike to try on my flat bars.
