......
okay... so i did the ed moore timming thing agaian. perfectly. didnt help the fact that when i kick the bike over it starts very first try, i keep hearing its not supposed to. and everytime i start it it revs all the way to six thousand rpms. im begging to think the carbs are bad. mabey the slides are so old they sat for so long with fuel build up on them they are shot. i was wondering if any1 knows what kind of constant velocity carbs would fit this bike since it seem like im now needing new carbs.
I suspect that the slides were actually the right way around before or that one or both are hanging up.
It's really hard to diagnose problems this way without seeing what's happening at the other end, but it seems that the high idle problem happened when the slides were switched, so that makes me think that something hung up.
Please pop the air filter tubes so you can see into the carbs and check that both slides are fully down and that the cutaway portion is towards the filters. Sometimes a cable ferrule pops out of place and cable hangs up.
Check both cables to be sure that there is a small but perceptible free play on both sides. Check that the slides both open from fully closed together.
Good luck.

Re: ......
Kung Fu, forget CVs! I have those on my CB250K and they're a pain in the attic compared to the simplicity of the PW26. There's a plethora of Keihin matched pairs out there, just watch eBay or PM Ed (LOUD MOUSE) or Davo (davomoto) or other multi-305 owners.naptown68superhawk wrote:okay... so i did the ed moore timming thing agaian. perfectly. didnt help the fact that when i kick the bike over it starts very first try, i keep hearing its not supposed to. and everytime i start it it revs all the way to six thousand rpms. im begging to think the carbs are bad. mabey the slides are so old they sat for so long with fuel build up on them they are shot. i was wondering if any1 knows what kind of constant velocity carbs would fit this bike since it seem like im now needing new carbs.
Scott (Spargett) has a pair of my old PW26s; there's probably nothing wrong with them that a clean-up and service wouldn't put right. My CB77 was running a treat on them, but I picked up a (well-expensive) pair from a CL77 and used my old 24231 needles. Scott has fitted Amal Concentrics, BTW.
If your bike is one of the last (it'll be a '67-build) then you could send yours to Ed for re-juvenating; he's the 305 omnipotent deity here....
Whatever you decide, g'luck!
High revving
Hey Naptown,
I wouldn't change the carb setup either. In the LAST instance, look for other carbs. But I think that there is something fixable with your carbs. If you take the idle screws 'way out, do the carb cylinders pretty much bottom out? They should go right down to the bottom (almost). If something is holding them up, that's where your problem is. It could be a bad adjustment on the throttle cable - the adjustment holders screwed 'way out and high, maybe too short a throttle cable in the first place - was that replaced recently? Keep at it - there has to be a reasonable cause for 6,000 rpm's! But you need to ensure that the carb cylinders are closing completely.
By the way - my ole Superhawk ALWAYS starts on the first kick too :-)
