sparkplugs?

i have rebuilt my 68 superhawk 305 carbs 3 times now. i purchised a carb kit for said make and model. and i reset the points and double checked and tripple check them. but to no avail. i keep burning up my plugs. i get about 3 miles then they are so bad the bike wont idle at a stop light.
advise? is this normal? or do i need new carbs? its just running so damn rich.

'Burning' up your plugs? Can you post a shot of what your plugs look like after a ride?

BTW, stock spark plugs are NGK D8HA, and should be fine for most applications witht the SuperHawk.

Did you set the float levels? Did you do Ed's tune up recipie? What size jets, which needles did you install in carb?

Does "burning up" mean the plug end is all black and covered with carbon?

Pull the plug right after it goes "bad" and see if it's wet with gasoline or smells strongly of gasoline.

i guess burning them up was the wrong way to put it. blackened with carbon would have been clearer. i set the floats with the eyeball method but i guess i did it wrong. i will find my camera and put a picture on soon. ive destroyed 8 plugs now. i was thinking about getting a hotter running plug is this a bad idea? i got NGK D8HA. im using the old needles becasue i read that the carb kit i got from honda the needs that came with would make it run even richer. i think its a float problem. i missed something somewhere.
