VIN

Post by Lefty Loosey » Mon Mar 14, 2011 5:01 pm

First post. I just bought a '67 CB77 that was in several parts, and it's going to need a lot of work to make it roadworthy. That's fine with me--I was looking for a project.

But even though I bought it pretty much as parts I'm going to eventually have to register it. The seller had no title, and it's been sitting in a garage since the Ford administration. Where do I look to get the VIN?

Welcome to the forum.

the VIN is located on the front of the frame and is usually stamped in the tree mount area.

Post it on the board when you get a chance and someone here will be able to tell you more about your bike.

Sorry, I don't know what a "tree mount" is.

The forks are attached to two brackets that pivot in the center. This is often called the "trees" or the "triple trees."

Hiya Lefty,

A bunch of us are in your 'hood. I'm in Folsom, but they do let me out on weekend passes if you need some help getting acquainted with your new bride ... errr ... money pit.

Welcome!

OK, I found two different numbers. The first is on a central post in front of the gas tank just below the pivot point. That number is CB77-1041261. Is this the VIN?

A number on a plate on the motor is: CB77E-1041291.

Yup, that's the one. The engine number always has an E after the model and they are always a few off. Yours being in the same neighborhood indicates that the motor was never replaced.
