gears
Yes you're on the right track. Just because I wanted to keep track of what I was doing, I counted the teeth on my gears and compared the numbers to those in the parts catalog and wrote the count on a paper in the proper position. Then when I finished I re-counted to compare the count when crossed. Made it easier for me since I need all the help I can muster. Rusty

Re: gears
I did the same here. I also didn't want to un-X them in case it had allready been done. Did'nt get the pleasure to ride it before X-ing. By the sounds of it , I didn't miss muchrustywrench wrote:Yes you're on the right track. Yes that's correct. Changes ratio's. You'll find the exact numbers in the archives and more in depth details.david lucas wrote:I hope I don't sound stupid but are yaw talking about moving the gears from their original position in a x pattern and that makes a improvement in the way it shifts?

x-ing gears. Any argument against?
Hi fellas,
Regarding changing the gear ratio. I always liked the 3rd and 4th pretty close, since I did a lot of highway riding, and 3rd was the "passing gear" - just gave you enough power to get past a car, without dropping a whole lot. I guess it all varies with your type of driving. Now that I'm in the mountains, a different gearing might be better. I'll have to think about it.
