I posted this in rants, but got no response.
What's your electric rotary tool of choice? I almost bought the WE330R:

but changed my mind at the last minute in favor of getting prior approval from management for the $212 cost. .. and to see if one is on eBay.
Thoughts?

That's a copy of a Foredom, I've used a Foredom for years.

Unless it's a lot cheaper, go for the real deal- not sure though, Foredoms may be made in the same factory as the copy by now.
A ball bearing handpiece doesn't get as hot to hold. I like to work at lower rpms, even though most people think you need to have them screaming like a turbine to work. Air grinders are more powerful, especially at lower rpms.
If you're planning to port heads, there are extended reach tools made for that.

I guess it all depends what you are going to do with it. I have a Dremel with a flex cable handpiece that I use for a lot of stuff. The little cutoff wheels are great for making specialty tools, like the spanner socket needed for our engines. Made one from an old impact socket I bought for a buck.
If I was looking to do head work, I'd go for an air driven tool for the reasons already mentioned. I do have a large electric die grinder my wife got me as a present one Christmas. I rarely use it.
regards,
Rob

Thanks guys! Yes, I do have a nice set of air tools and long tapered sander tools for porting, but I do need something electric. I use it almost daily ... polishing, wire wheels, cutoffs, etc.
The Foredom looks perfect. The price scares me. That's almost as much as I paid for my CB77 :) The one I came close to buying today was the Wecheer (made in Taiwan) was $215 with 1.4HP, flex shaft, foot control and hand piece. I would prefer the Foredom though.
Lemme bounce it all off management.
