I am very much a noob here, however I have been attempting to read the available literature.

My impression from Bill Silver and other authors is that at altitude, smaller jets are useful to compensate for the thinner atmosphere.

Does that sound reasonable?

Yes, you do need to lean out jetting for higher altitudes.
