67 superhawk, now to get it licensed!hey everyone, i just picked up my first bike, it has compression, and came with literally a trash can full of extra parts like carbs, clutches, cables, headlight/gauges, a little bit of everything! i know it at least needs the carbs gone through, a battery, and an ignition switch(no key). then going to work on it from there to see what else it needs. the newest plates are 83, i wasnt born til 86! i have a 67 dodge dart gt, have gotten tons of awesome help and met a few guys in my area who have old mopars with slant sixes. i have worked on it a good amount, and im really good with bicycles(refurbishing them and reselling on craigslist is how i will probably pay for stuff on this bike), however, i have tinkered with my roommates tomos moped a little and watched someone else rebuild the carb, and i changed a foot peg on my other roommates 1100 yamaha, and that is the extent of my motorcycle experience! any thing i should absolutely look into besides the battery, switch, and carbs(and fuel lines and tank)?

Welcome and you came to the right place. First let's talk about where you live. Someone may even be located near you and can be more help in person. For the carbs I use a lot of carb cleaner and air. I have not had good luck with the rebuild kits and try to use as much original parts as possable. Next go to the search section and find all info you can about cleaning the tank, cleaning carbs, setting up the points and timing (FAQ Ed's recipe for timing) and then get her to run. I try to get one to run first and then I can evaluate the bugs. Hang in there and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Bringing one of these old bikes back to life is a very rewarding experience. i have a 67 dart as mentioned, that had sat for 9 years before i got it when i was 17, thats something that is still a big connection to my dad for me (my parents are in illinois and i am in indiana) we took it down the road so many time thinking we had it ready, only for it to putter out at 35 mph! looking forward to this project as well. as i said, im am in indiana, indianapolis to be specific, how would i go about finding a local member? i am a member of a slant 6 forum and learned to search for info, this board seems very active as well. i am gonna try to get a battery somewhere and a switch and go from there. then i can trouble shoot. thanks!
switchLook through posts about keys. There are sources here where you may find a key from only the number off the switch. Far less expensive than the whole switch. RW
