If the impact driver wont get it. Drill off the heads of the screws and save the cover. Clean and soak the threads once the cover is removed. Use a NEW pair of vise grip locking pliers w/ good teeth to turn out the threads. Often times than not they will thread right out after the heads are drilled off. Releaves the tension on the fastener.

Mine aren't gone yet, but the heads are about to strip out. Removed them last time with a new pair of leverlocks but would like to replace them. My bike's a '63- where can I find replacements? Anyone know?

I'd be inclined to try easy outs before drilling out.

Are the threads stripped completely?
If not, try finding a JIS screwdriver or impact bit that fits the cross tightly as possible.
Dip the bit in valve grinding compound and whack it in the screw with a hammer.
Put a set of vice grips on the screwdriver or bit and push in while giving a sharp quick rotation to the left.
If this doesn't work, break out the beer and the drill.
