Fuel Line into Carb Banjo Bolt

Hello,
I just took apart the and cleaned the carbs, when was putting them back on i ran into an issue with the banjo bolt that feeds the gas into the carbs. Ill begin to screw the bolt into the carbs and it will begin to tighten and then all of the sudden its completely loose again. When i looked at the bolt there was some thread that was coming off, itlooked it had been painted on.
Was this some kind of old thread repair?
How can I repair this?
Are you supposed to use crush washers on this? Thanks,

Take a good look at the threads in the carb body.
I suspect they are not good. ..............lm

could I helicoil it? Never done it before, but would it be possible? Thanks,

That would be a tough one to helicoil. I think not, not enough meat to drill and tap for heli coil insert. Try the wanted section for a carb body.

I think theres enough lip where i could just clamp a fuel line onto the carb. Would this be ok while a wait to find a new carb? Does the stock banjo bolt set up provide a specific rate of fuel entering the float bowl? Thanks!
