Fender Brace/Seat Rails Refinishing

I have a question about the Honda Dream seat rails or also known as rear fender braces. What is the best way to get them back to original condition? I have seen some that are painted and they look great but not original. I have seen some that have been polished to a really shiny finish, again, it looks great but not original. I know it's the same finish on the top and bottom of the shocks post and a few other parts on the Dream. I am restoring two bikes and I want them as close to original as I can get.
