Engine & Frame number
Engine & Frame number
I just purchased a honda dream 305. The frame # is CA78 311757 the engine is ca77e 316625. Does anyone know what year this thing is. It is titled as a 63 off the engine which doesn't seem correct to me, maybe a problem. I suspect that if it was a matching numbers bike the numbers would match.

Hi,
Here's a page you might want to check out , It's called Carbon dating old Hondas , Hope the link works .
Also I thing if there's 14 or less numbers between the Motor & the Frame number it indicates it has the original motor.
Any how check this link out / Peter
http://vjmc.org/techtips/carbondating.htm

Re: Engine & Frame number
looks like a late 63 to me and I think the motor and frame are a factory match. This being a "late" run there will be a wider spread in the numbers.

Just my opinion.
Old bikes like old men, sometimes you have to kick start them
Re: Engine & Frame number
Hi Rob,
That's interesting what you were saying about the numbers, My Dream has more digits in the numbers ? do they mean something to you ? CA78-1001910 CA77E-1001914 , I would be very interested to know.
These old Honda bikes are so good , I pulled mine down the other day & I found very little wrong with it so far. Not bad for a Bike that's 40 years old !!!!! most of the work will just be cosmetic things / Peter

Your bike would have been built between '65 and '67.fab wrote:
My Dream has more digits in the numbers ? do they mean something to you ? CA78-1001910 CA77E-1001914 , I would be very interested to know.
