I have made something like you have in the pic. My qeustion for you is; what is the width (not thickness) of those end pieces?

additionally, the pointy thingy inside my plug cap is not threaded. I have trimmed back the wire as suggested, but when I "screw" the cap on, it does not bite, and can pull off the wire easily. Should there be some threaded component that is missing from my caps?

I have:

1)checked/adjusted valves
2)checked adjusted pts/timing
3)have cut back plug wires and re-installed caps
4)needle clip in middle groove
5)air screw 1 and a half turns out.
6)New KandN filter
7)New DH6A plugs properly gapped

Started and let idle for 5 minutes, not touching the throttle at all. (No choke-fires right up) The irregular exhaust pattern on the RS is somewhat better, BUT
checked plugs and they are BLACK. Ughh.

I am thinking the (running rich) problem has got to be carb related. If the o-ring on the minifold were leaking, wouldnt that make it run leaner? Do I dare keep turning the air screw out? Is there a seat/oring in the airscrew that could be bad?

Did you install the jets from the carb. kit?I saw where you say you put the clip on only in another thread.I found that the Keyster kit makes it run really rich and went back to original parts except I did install next size main jet to get it running the way I wanted.

joewier,
after reading many posts, I ordered the keyster kit knowing that I would not use many of its parts including the jets. My carb came with 120-35, so I assume its stock. The ONLY 2 items I used(so far) from the kit are the bowl gasket and the needle-retaining clip. My bike is running rich at low idle so Im guessing its the airscrew, but is 1-and -a-half turns out already.

Slo, the "air screw" is actually a fuel screw. The more you turn it out, the richer the bike runs on idle circut. You may want to try to find the next size smaller pilot jet.

Davamoto,
DOH! Now I really feel like a knucklehead! This is incredibly useful information!!! THANKS!
since you are humoring the knuckleheads today, can you answer this next (unrelated) question?:
I removed the oil pump so that I can clean the oil strainer, How do I get the oil strainer out? It does not have a flange like the one in the manual.
THANKS!!
