Petcock rebuild

Post by LTthisFire » Sat Feb 14, 2009 1:01 pm

Hey guys,

Got my kit in for rebuilding the petcock on my 66 dream. When i took the petcock off, pretty much everything had been pretty much melted and turned into a goo. The kit i got came with the petcock parts breakdown and showed where everything goes, but im kind of at a dead end right now and dont want to do more damage, so i figured id turn here for help!

As it stands this propeller shaped part shows on the diagram that it comes out, but i cant figure out how to get it off, however my new kit doesnt have a piece that looks like it and im not sure if its because i have a more modern upgrade for it or what!?

The propeller looking thing is to be reused after you take it out..It is supposed to go on the piece with the tubes.I would soak it with penetrating oil and the work it loose.Use either the cork or the othr rubber disk, not both.Kit maker lets it up to you.I will say I got the kit when only the rubber disk was available and the petcock is harder tu turn.Original Honda part was cork.Hope that helps.Joe

joe thats a huge help! The propellor thing, will that come off solo, or is it attached to a piece that will come off?

The propeller thing has a small pin on it which is attatched to the round plate with holes....... will go in the hole on the piece with the tubes...Rubber piece is stuck in there too and metal plate is probably stuck.Just take your time.

joe, youve been such a help with this whole project, if i could give you a huge e-high-five i would!

so next hurtle,

Im putting this all back together the way the parts guide shows it, but ive noticed that mine didnt have the additional piece ( the kit came with the rubber and cork version ). Under the propellor part was just the remnants of the piece that the pipe sticks out of!

Because when i put the cork part on, i cant get the petcock to go back together or hold tight, is there a trick? Am i doing this all wrong?

Thanks!

pictured are the new parts as well as the old piece that was under the propeller part...

ok i figured it out, looks like the cork part was still in there, didnt realize it. However when putting it back together the propellor part came off, is that right? Or did i just do some damage and it snapped? Theres a little nub there, not sure if the pb blaster did its job or if it broke :(

anybody?

I'd say it's broke.
