slides sticking cb77

i'm at a brick wall.
what are some common causes for the slides to stick on a cb77? as i've said before I don't know anything about the basic mechanics of a motorcycle, and i'm certainly a far cry over my head on this one. Seems like everything I do to 'fix' a problem, makes it 3 times worse.

If the nuts that hold the carbs to the head are too tight, they will cause slides to bind. try loosening each nut a little bit at a time, and see if that helps. Also, lubing cable is a good idea, as well as making sure bores of carbs and slides are smooth and free of burrs. You can also try removing the cable, and pushing slides up and see if they'll return that way. Last suggestion is make sure throttle tube is properly greased, white lithium grease, and grip isn't contacting end of bar. Don't worry about making it three times worse, no matter what you're gonna learn something by getting in there and trying!

You may want to isolate the three things davemoto mentioned. The grip, the throttle cable and the slides to see what is sticking.

I had some problems in the grip. Throttle cable was kinked and frayed inside the grip. It was hanging up there. This was cause by removing the throttle cable too many times looking for the problem. I replaced the cable and it works like a charm.

I'm going replace the cable first I think as my cable could use replacing and it would probably be a good bet to do so. Thanks for the info guys. I'm getting so burned out on this bike, if its not one thing its another. I'm at the point that i want to send the carbs and engine to a mechanic for a rebuild.

To determine if the problem is the slides ya can remove the air tubes and lift each slide and see if they stick. I do those jobs here. ........lm

my slides do stick if i lift the slides, i tested that out during lunch after posting. so I suppose it's not the cable despite it being in rough condition.

on a somewhat tangent... the springs above the slides? are there supposed to be two springs above each slide? one wide one that fits around the fitting at the top, and one thinner but longer one that fits inside the wide one?

just checking on that.
