I am quite sure my washer was behind the oil filter when I first took it off. The washer dropped into the side cover when I removed it. I recovered the washer when I took the side cover off to paint it. This wouldn't have been possible for it to fall in the cover if it were in the right location. I can see a little wear on the cover. I don't think this bike was rode much in the last 25 years so I by luck it didn't get destroyed.
