CB chainguard question

My '61-framed CB has this chainguard, which fits over the r/h engine casing; most others I've seen fit inside the casing. Is mine fitted wrongly -- I don't see any other method -- or was there a design change here?

Thanks Ed. So they do insert into the chaincase, as opposed to cover it?
