Hello! I need to rebuild a leaky carb and I can't tell if these are OVAL or SQUARE carbs... Help! Thanks...

Oh geeeze... another restorer just told me I have square! Ummmm... let me put up a few more pics... just to be sure... I'm sure one of you is right and I certainly don't mean to cause a fuss but I need to know for sure...

I've been rebuilding my 64 CB77 carbs recently, and those look oval to me as well. I was actually sent a CL77 kit, which has square carbs. That's what set me off when I pulled out the square gasket next to my oval carbs.

Check out attached pic for difference between square and oval carbs...looking at corners from bottom makes it obvious; you might need a mirror if carbs are on bike. or i guess you could just pop off bowls. anyway, corners on square on square carbs, more rounded on oval ones. (it does help to have one of each to compare.)

This pic taken on lm's workbench in Kerrville. I got quite an education in a day and a half last week when I went to deliver engine. including fact that my 62 cb77 had one oval one and one square one. A big mystery, i've owned bike since 1963 and surely i'd remember paying for a new carburetor wouldn't I? We'll make it right. I'm planning on going back for more fun in a week or so, we only got halfway through my list of questions and misc. parts needed. I'll try to put together some sort of post about this adventure with some pix but not right now. Ed is an amazing fellow, and his wife Laurie (sp?) is a true gem too!
