Please Help, Advice needed.. are the motors seized?

Post by ho9984 » Tue Oct 21, 2008 11:44 pm

I’ve been peeking around this forum for a long long time. Looking at all the fun everyone is having, I’ve decided to start a project of my own. I’ve been searching for a few months with not much luck. Finally I found someone selling TWO!!!! CB77’s. The guy selling it told me he got it from an uncle who passed away. One CB was running and was in the middle of a restoration, and the other he does not know much about. I went to take a look at them today to see how they look. The “middle of a restoration” bike his uncle was working on was pretty much dismantled, but he says the engine was good before his uncle tore it down. He had the tanks and the fenders painted (which makes me believe that he was really doing a restoration). The other CB looks a lot more complete. It was missing a starter and seat and having CL pipes instead. I tried to see if the motor s were seized on both bikes. Both I can shift the gears without much problem. The more completed bike, I was able to get it to roll for about 6 inches before it stopped. I don’t know if it means the engine is seized or not. I wish I had more room to work with it and see if I sound kick it over but there wasn’t much room in the storage unit. He doesn’t know how much to ask for and I don’t know how much I should offer.

LONG STORY SHORT:
Are motors seized if I can put it in gear and roll it for 6 inches? Or should they not move at all if in fact they are seized?
How much should I offer for one or both of these bikes? I was thinking 600 for both
Both have clean titles

Seized or not if $600 buys both you've done very well IMO. It appears jpg.1 is a CL77 with a CB tank.

Try turning over the motor with the kick starter.

Both those bikes for 600 bucks?

I say go for it, even if both motors are seized.

If there is no kick starter on the bike , take off the alternator cover on the kickstart side . I believe it is four screws and try to turn it over with a wrench.
If it is stuck I have had good luck using marvel mystery to free one. But make sure to check the pistons and the rings afterward.
I am no expert and new to this so please correct me if my info is bad.

$600.00 is a steal with titles, if your close to oregon and don't want them I will take them.
Thanks,
Kirk

If you can get both bikes for 600 dollars-PLEASE BUY THEM. You won't be sorry. Even if you have to go to a $1000.00 you are still getting one hell of a deal. I am in Virginia and if you don't want them and they are not close to Oregon, let me know.
