Clunky Gear shift on '64 CP77

Post by Fastwater » Mon Sep 15, 2008 4:02 pm

I realize it is a very old bike, but is it normal for the gear shifts to be a little clunky and occasionally want to grind while going into the lower gears. It's nothing fatal, but definitely not always smooth.

And, with that, do you all know of a qualified mech to rebuild the engine in New York City?

Welcome along, with that beauty!

Check the clutch adjustment, as per the handbook; it sounds like it could be dragging a little. None of these bikes are exactly slick shifters but they should cog-swap quite well if you're assertive with the pedal.

Thanks for the Reply! I'll take another look at the clutch tonight.
Oddly enough, the clutch cable broke last night. Very timely.
Other than the shifting, she is running like a champ!
