Ooops... sorry I mis-directed -- didn't know what you meant by badges, obviously.

Yup. Serial is just stamped on the frame.

In the states: We don't need no stinkin' badges!! At least not yet anyway. Makes me wonder what kind of "carbon footprint" taxes these cool old bikes will be assessed in a few years.

Well that, my dear Scottie, is what we Brits call a tax disc! Yes, another tax on the Blighted Bastards from Blighty (I s'pose the money for the road network comes from somewhere). Its proper name is a Road Fund Licence, or RFL. We owners of machines over 25 years old get it for FREE, yes FREE, annually. It gets printed with NIL in the £ field. But we still have to display one. If we (they, actually, as I don't f@#*ing live there!!) don't have/apply for/display one then the registered owner automatically gets fined (more beaurocratic revenue) in the mail. If a vehicle isn't 'On The Road' (failed the road test or whatever) then the owner must remit a SORN -- Statutory Off Road Notice -- to DVLA -- the Driver & Vehicle Licensing Agency.

With me so far? S'bollox, isn't it.....

Anyways, you do see the odd manufacturer's pre-stamped plate (like the Denso one on our starter motors [sorry, CL-ers, you don't have one of those, do you?]) rivetted to the steering head but, as I admitted, I've not seen one on a CB. Could be wrong. Has been known.........

Thanks for the info steve. It sounds similar to the US, where we have to pay for license "tabs" yearly, the same as cars. If your car/bike is 25 years or older, you can get a "collector" plate which is free of yearly fees, but has limited use.

I dug through my pics: FWIW, here is a pic of the steering stem on my CL77, showing the loose and swinging horn on the left and tank bumper on the right.

Honda didn't use those badges until 68 or 69. So nothing is missing.
