does frame color designate original color of bike

Krylon Dull Aluminum 1403 is for the engine casings. I'd suggest finding a close-matching 2-pack silver for the fen..... mudguards, valley cover & air filter covers. Frame should be blue on a '64 blue bike, as should the chainguard and, I believe, seat.

I'll stick with black as that seems to be the original colour. I didn't realise the cases were painted, I have two engines and both have bare cases. Are the crankcases painted as well or just the side cases?

Typically that paint is not available in the UK

Just a quick chime in --

According to LM in the past, only side covers were painted, not crankcases. Give cases and heads a cleanup or light bead blasting, and that's it.

Side casings, crankcases, starter & its covers. The only polished parts are the oil filter cover (lhs). alternator cover (rhs), points cover, camchain tensioner, final drive-chain upper cover & tappet covers. Barrels, head, tacho drive & top cover are rough-cast & best blasted.

Hey Scottie, that could be correct -- I'm sure Ed will confirm -- but the crankcases (especially the upper) do look sooo much better when nicely painted; and much less to regularly polish up!

I've never seen a "polished by HONDA" engine main case. Or cam chain adjuster or final drive top cover. The same with the tappet covers except for the middle issue which was a "natural cast" shine part. .............lm

OK, bare alloy? Or was the final drive top cover painted? It's just that I've caught a few (Asian NOS) for sale and they're always naked. I got a NOS starter sprocket cover and that was painted. The tappet tops & maybe the cam chain tensioner were bare, but they do look good when polished.
