timing chain adjustment question

hi guys, when setting the timing chain tensioner, i cant remember what position the crank should be in.

Loosen the bolt and make sure the shaft will move. Turn the crank at the rotor bolt and watch the shaft. It should/may move in and out. Tighten the bolt when the shaft is in the most. ...........lm

thanks Loud Mouse, that seamed to do the trick. i actually have it running now. i guess the next thing to tackle is the electrical.

Hey Loud Mouse:
I have a little slack sound in the motor -- a whining sound like my drive chain is loose, only it isn't, and the sound is definitely coming from inside the motor. I read somewhere here that I should check my cam chain adjustment. I've never done this, and can't seem to find directions.

Can you expand on your description above? Are you referring to 30 as the bolt to be loosened and 17 is the shaft? Seems simple enough, just want to be sure before I go at it.

I figure now is a good time to learn how to check my valve clearance too -- I'm guessing the two large caps above my exhaust ports hide the valve stems?

Sorry if my questions seem simple, but I'm trying to learn everything I can about this bike...

That is the bolt to loosen but only after you have loosened the nut on it.
The valve adjustment is made under all 4 of those caps. ..............lm
