Seat logo color and other restoration questionsSeat logo color and other restoration questionsHello All,
Does any one know the correct '65 CB77 Honda lettering color for black seats? Gold or white? Has any one found a good source for the silver wire harness tape? 3M wire binding tape is close, but is a little dark in color. One more question: I've tried using Dupli Color clear high temp enamel (500 degree) to preserve polished or bead blasted and burnished aluminum parts, however it's not quite clear and gives a slight amber sheen. Any other ideas?
These guys have the silver sleeving http://www.vintageconnections.com/ I believe they have the tape as well... Plus somebody was selling it on eBay....may have been the same guys.....Not sure about the seat....somebody else will know.........sounds like most people say leave the head and cylinder alone...lacquer will likely discolour in time

82 Honda XR200R 70 Honda CB750 K0 http://www.vintageconnections.com/ sells a kit on eBay with 3 foot of 3 different sizes of tubing and a roll of tape. I have been to the site and you can order items seperately. The color of the kit on eBay doesn't look right but it is good.
Thanks for the tip on the wire harness materials.
I should clarify about the high temp clear coat. After sanding with progressively finer wet and dry and lightly bead blasting lower covers (nothing near fins) I've achived a really nice finish. It'd be a shame to cover it with paint. I did that years ago with my first cb77 restoration and it yellowed over time. Let me know what the colors of the the '65 Honda seat letters should be. Any one? Oh, another question, any ideas on a restoration technique for the entry grommet for the wires on the horn? Every one of them I've seen has cracked, checked, and dried out grommet material. Okay. I’ve found out that the seat letters were gold for my CB77 restoration project. Makes you wonder what they’re thinking for the seats coming out of south east Asia.
I’m still wondering what to do about the entry grommet for the wires on the horn. The horn is riveted together and the wire entry grommet is out in the open for all to see. Ugly. Short of removing the rivets and casting a new grommet has on one got any ideas? Someone must have tried something for this problem, perhaps a slight over coat with polyurethane comes to my to mind. Got a spare dented horn to give that a try. Just a general note: Maybe I’m asking to many questions for a Newbie but I always thought a forum was an open exchange of thoughts and ideas. Some ideas believable and some not, but that’s the internet – nearly intellectual anarchy.
The letters (HONDA) were BRONZE not GOLD. ........................lm
I'll put in my two cents on the sleeve and tape: I purchased the sleeve and tape and some connectors on eBay, and yes, it's the same company. Great service.
The silver is really close in color. The connectors and the crimping tool work well, however I found that if I replaced the male (new) connector on a component that would be plugged into a female (old Honda) connector it wouldn't fit quite the way I'd like it too. Has anybody else noticed that? And I've also been wondering what to do with the horn wire grommet.
