1960 C77 Dream 305
1960 C77 Dream 305Here is an extremely rare Dream. One of approximately 300 built during the 1960 model year for the U.S. market. My bike has a "A" code VIN, meaning that the "A" is part of the VIN, not later Dreams that start out as CA77, mine is C77-A1***. My bike is 2 digits off from engine and frame.
Also it has a rare one year only paint called maroon, which it shares with the 59/60 CE-71. Bike will be shown in the upcoming May / June issue of motorcycleclassics.com.
Re: 1960 C77 Dream 305Very nice example and in great condition.

Re: 1960 C77 Dream 305Wow, what a beauty! I love the color!!
Have you researched this bikes history? How did you find it? -- Michael
Re: 1960 C77 Dream 305I bought this bike almost 3 years ago. The owner restored bike in 2005. It was about 75% complete when I picked it up. I bought it off Cycle Trader after seeing the listing. Original owner had passed away, and his wife (widow) covered it up and the bike was not touched in 12 years. Finally she ended up selling all of his bikes, this was 1 of 14 that she sold. He originally bought this bike in 1962, it was 2 years old at the time. His wife told me that this is the original color of the bike when they originally bought it. After I bought the bike I spent a lot of time trying to find all of the necessary parts to complete the restoration. I found the original style NOS taillight, NOS tank badges, and Yazaki speedo with the high beam delete indicator. The bike has been entered in numerous shows and consistently wins. It won first place at the Concours' d' Elegance, scoring a perfect 100 points from the judges, and 3 Best of Shows so far. Honda does and will not admit to the color maroon on this bike, but they had 4 different reds back in the day. Maroon, Tokyo Rose, Watermelon, and Scarlet. Color on my bike it shares with the 59 / 60 CE71. I have only seen one other Dream painted this color and bike was owned by the Shriners who had it painted white. New owner noticed the maroon paint when he was taking it apart and saw the paint color under the speedo. No idea how many 60 Dreams are left after 63 years but I am sure not many. If anyone out there has an early Dream with a VIN like mine, C77-A1*** please reply. Highest VIN that I have seen is 0268 for last 3 digits.
Re: 1960 C77 Dream 305Mike, do you have any reference literature that explains the VIN structure on these models?
The color on your bike represents the best of the 1960s, where bike and car manufacturers had a happier palett for sure. Here, BTW, is the same color on a 1960s Citroen ID19. The French called it "Rouge Cornaline."
